Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna: The unsung hero of the freedom movement, who was honored with the title of 'Gadkesari'

Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna was a brave and courageous freedom fighter and one of the most popular political leaders of the state of Uttarakhand.
The contribution of the state of Uttarakhand in preserving the heritage of India's socio-cultural history is no less. Uttarakhand is the name of a hilly state located in the northern direction of India with difficult geographical conditions. Many great personalities have been born in the state of Uttarakhand, who have become world famous in many important fields like spiritual, religious, cultural, environmental protection, art, literature, economic, defense and security of the country. Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna's prestigious name comes in the most popular and famous personalities who got a place in the queue of these great personalities of the country.
Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna was born on February 18, 1894, at Punyatirth Anusuya Devi Ashram in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. His parents also named him Anusuiya Prasad Bahuguna after Anusuya Devi. He was a brave and courageous freedom fighter and one of the most popular political leaders of the state of Uttarakhand. Anusuya Prasad did her early education from Nandprayag and matriculation from Pauri. He graduated in science from Allahabad University and studied law in 1916. From the time of getting education, the flame for patriotism started rising in his mind. After completing his education, he worked as Naib Tehsildar.
Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna was inspired by the rising wave of nationalism, which was sweeping across the country at that time. Influenced by nationalism, Anusuya Bahuguna and Barrister Mukundilal attended the Amritsar meeting of the Indian National Congress on 13 April 1919 after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Punjab. The meeting was presented by Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna and Barrister Mukundilal, the last participation of generals by Britain. This meeting inspired him to start an intense movement against the Garhwali Act in the Rowlatt Act. This agitational work proved extremely difficult for Anusuya Prasad, because the people of Garhwal were loyal to the British rule during the austere times. After this, the work of social reform and mass organizations ended in Anusuya Prasad Garhwal. In the year 1920-21, Badridutt Pandey was leading the movement against the evil practice like Coolie Begar in the Kumaon region, while Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna was leading the same movement in the Garhwal region.
The memorial was started from the village Kakarkhal at a distance of about 32 km from Rudraprayag to end the Kuli Begar malpractice. From this document, the number of agitators associated with the people of the nearby villages had increased to hundreds. When the British government negotiated, the villagers threw out this village in the dark of night itself. Angered by the humiliating insult, the British government threatened the agitators as well as the supporters with grave injustice. In Garhwal of the temporary period, the people's movement against perverse practices like coolie rising, coolie begar and bardayash and against government interference in the forest law had a strong hold. Anusuya Prasad of both the inscriptions took a successful lead in ending the malpractices. The "Singh Dwar" was named in the effort of Law from the forest of Law Inter College and Gauchar Mela. In this some improvements were offered to the public. Due to the success of his protest against the evil practice, the people of Garhwal, who were extremely harsh, honored him with the title of "Gadkesari".
In 1921, he was appointed as the president of Garhwali in the youth conference organized by him, in the same year he was elected minister of the District Congress Committee. In 1930, he led this movement in Uttarakhand in salt science. The British authorities charged him with a breach under section 144 and he was sent to jail for four months. In the year 1931, he was elected as the ideal of the district board. With his significant efforts, a company named Himalaya Hi Airways started air service from Haridwar to Gochar for the convenience of the pilgrims coming to Badri-Kedar Dham. In 1934, Sun Viceroy's wife Lady Wilmington's journalist Sant Nihal Singh had left Gauchar in an aeroplane. On behalf of Garhwal, Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna welcomed him. In 1937, he was elected a member of the Garhwal seat for the Legislative Council of United Junction from Garhwal. In the year 1939, he raised his voice against the people's mismanagement in Badrinath in the United Math Parishad and had the temple building near the Shri Badrinath Temple Management Act. In 1938, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Vijay Lakshmi Pandit came to Garhwal on a 5-day visit.
Jawaharlal Nehru was extremely impressed by the dedicated spirit of Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna for the independence of the country. In April 1940, he was elected at the Political Conference in Prayag, Karnataka. Sza was arrested on December 14, 1941 and sentenced to one year. His health had deteriorated in prison. Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna took an active part in both the non-cooperation study and civil disobedience study. During the Quit India Movement of 1942, he was put under house arrest by the government. Many intolerable torture had never given up their fight against colonialism. Ultimately, he died on March 23, 1943 due to several health problems, giving his invaluable contribution to the freedom struggle of the country. On October 10, 1974, Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna Government Government College Agastyamuni was established in Uttarakhand in the memory of this unsung hero. Nandprayag
